My name is Heather Greene, and I’ve been teaching piano lessons to children, teens, and adults for fifteen years. I like teaching children because they are the most receptive to learning new things. Children are willing to make mistakes and that makes them the best of all music students. I recommend beginning lessons for children between the ages of 6-12.
I believe that offering a musical education for your child gives them so much more than just learning the basics of rhythm, pitch and technique. Piano lessons teach discipline, patience, and perseverance. Learning to perform in front of an audience builds self-confidence and challenges them to have high standards. It helps extroverted children direct their energy and helps more introverted children find an outlet for effective self-expression.
Teaching children to love music is what I do best. I understand that many of my students will not become concert pianists, so my focus in teaching piano is to give each child a full understanding of the basics of piano and foster an overall appreciation for music. By giving children the skills to make music for themselves, I open up a new world of self-expression that allows students to pursue opportunities previously unavailable.
After two years of piano lessons, many students can take on the challenge of an additional instrument and find that the foundation they built while learning piano helped them learn a new instrument much more quickly. Other children choose to spend their time pursuing athletics or other arts which can be a sign that learning piano has encouraged them to try new things. Some children go on to be music majors in college pursuing the arts full time.
No matter which category your child might be in, giving them a foundation of piano lessons will help them discover that they have the ability to try new things. Piano lessons early in life will give them courage to open doors of opportunity throughout life.
